1 kilometer walk.
That’s like what…half a mile?
This should be easy.
2 minutes later:
“Hm. Maybe I should have thought this through.”
90+ degree weather. Just around noon time. Humid. Lots of heavy trucks passing by. Great for my lungs.
Before I let the moaning and groaning take over, I thought to myself:
“Let’s turn this into a game.”
CAN YOU…
…bring your full attention to the body? All the sensations.
The warmth (searing fire) whenever the sun touched my skin.
The touch of relief whenever I passed under a tree.
The jolt of resistance whenever I went back into the sun.
I felt it all, I noticed it all, and because of it, my mind didn’t fall into resistance mode.
CAN YOU…
…bring your attention to notice all the thoughts going on in your head?
“Oh god oh god oh god.”
“How much longer…”
I imagined US troops marching through this heat with their packs of 50+ pound gear.
Maybe this is why they train you so hard in basic training.
It’s the mental game that’s hard.
CAN YOU…
Bring your attention back here to the present.

This game works for any difficult/uncomfortable experience. It’s not easy, but hey, it’s better than moaning and groaning and making yourself miserable.
What’s the next uncomfortable experience you can use for your own practice?
